Veda Slovena & She’Koyokh – a unique collaboration at London’s The Forge

In a unique collaboration, She’Koyokh & Veda Slovena Bulgarian Choir combine the fiery panache of klezmer and Balkan music with the timeless beauty of Bulgarian voices. Bulgarian folk singing sparked the world’s attention in the ‘80s with Filip Kutev’s Grammy Award-winning Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares. This ancient, distinctive and highly sophisticated vocal tradition is said to be capable of transforming daily hardship and historical tragedy into sublime beauty. Bulgaria famously sits on the crossroad between Europe and Asia, and this is a fitting union; She’Koyokh, “playing the best Balkan and klezmer music in Britain” (The Evening Standard) form a unique collaboration with Veda Slovena Bulgarian Choir, weaving Jewish, Turkish and Balkan music into the rich tapestry of the Bulgarian choral tradition.

Veda Slovena at Voices Now 2015

We had an exciting, wholesome and hugely enjoyable day at Voices Now on Sunday 10th May 2015. It truly was a celebration of choral singing and a fantastic opportunity to learn, share the music we adore and admire our fellow choirs. So much talent! Special thanks to Clare Edwards and the whole team who made it all one seamless journey. It was brilliant!

We also had the amazing opportunity to perform live on The Choir on BBC Radio 3 alongside Kathryn Tickell, Sam Lee and the truly Magnificent AK47, in addition to our choir director Eugenia Georgieva leading a singing workshop on Saturday. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to be part of this outstanding event.
